Mission and Vision

Mission:

"Nature abhors vacuum." Remembering this maxim the founding fathers of Behala College of Commerce started in 1967 an evening commerce college mostly for working people. From the beginning it was a men's college. Gradually it was felt that women too deserve to study in this college. With this in mind college started to induct women in 2004 and the college became a co-educational college. Further development took place in 2007 with the introduction of B.A. courses with English Honours. Thus the college became a commerece and arts college for men and women. The name of the college was also changed in consonance with this change. 'Behala College of Commerce' became 'Rabin Mukherjee College'.

This short history of the college underlines the mission of the college. Rabin Mukherjee College has always striven to spread its wings. The college wants to impart quality education and intends to show that quality education is the sine qua non of an academic institution. The college is unique in the sense that it is the only evening college within a vast area of south west Kolkata and adjacent parts of 24 Parganas (S). Thus it is the only college in the area that caters to students who seek education in the evening hours when they are free from service. Thus Rabin Mukherjee College intends to demonstarte that a college can impart quality education for students who have to take up service very early in their lives.

Rabin Mukherjee College has a severe shortage of space. Right from its inception it has suffered from lack of proper infrastructure. However the staff and management understand that that should not get into the way of imparting quality education. This is where a progressive vision comes in. Within the limited space the college is setting up a smart classroom and other classrooms with ICT facilities. The college wants to become state of the art and fit for the 21st century. With limited space in the library the college is bringing in new books and journals. College has introduced Inlfibnet facility for its teachers and intends to extend that support for the students. College has introduced NSS and is taking steps to encourage extra curricular activities of the students.

Rabin Mukherjee College believes in progress and journey. As long as the college survives it will strive for excellence and try to serve the students despite all the limitations.
